Machinery Regulation 2027

Well Prepared Together

Dear Partners,
the new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 replaces the previous Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and has been in force since January 20, 2024. It will become mandatory as of January 14, 2027 – introducing new requirements that affect many aspects of machinery and plant engineering.

Changes

Particularly relevant in this context are the HMI systems. Here's a brief overview of the most important changes:

Cybersecurity

  • Protection against unauthorized access (e.g., through user rights, encryption)
  • Safety-critical functions must not be manipulable – even via remote access

AI & Adaptive Systems

  • Self-learning or adaptive systems must remain transparent and controllable
  • Humans must retain control at all times

Digital Operating Manuals

  • Digital manuals via the HMI are permitted
  • Safety-relevant content must also be available offline and kept up to date

Documentation

  • Functions, safety measures, and software updates must be fully documented
  • HMIs are part of the safety-relevant overall system

Ergonomics & Usability

  • Intuitive operation is explicitly required
  • Good UX will be a future safety requirement

Updates & Remote Access

  • Updates must be traceable and carried out securely
  • Remote access is allowed – but only with clear safety precautions

What does this mean for you specifically?

Many existing HMIs need to be adapted to the new requirements – this involves not only compliance with standards, but also aspects such as ease of use, transparency, and future-proofing.

We’re happy to support you.
As an experienced partner in mechanical engineering, we provide hands-on support to our clients – with a focus on human-machine interaction, modern software architectures, and standards-compliant interface design.

Important: We are not certified CE or legal consultants – but we have extensive experience to support you in interpreting and technically implementing the new requirements as effectively as possible.

What we can do for you

  • Analysis and assessment of your existing HMI solutions
  • Evaluation of the impact of the new regulation
  • Development of suitable, compliant, and user-friendly HMIs
  • Support in coordinating with engineering, CE, IT, and software teams

Now is the right time to take action.
We would be happy to present our approach to you in a personal meeting.
