Machinery Regulation 2027
Well prepared together!
The new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 has been in force since January 20, 2024, and will become mandatory on January 14, 2027. It introduces clear requirements for safety, documentation, and software – especially for HMI systems. We support machine manufacturers in updating existing solutions and developing new HMIs that are compliant, safe, and user-friendly.
Why is the topic of the Machinery Regulation relevant?
- Cybersecurity: Protection against unauthorized access and tamper-proof safety-critical functions – including for remote access.
- AI & adaptive systems: Systems must remain transparent, controllable, and always overridable by humans.
- Digital operating manuals: Digital manuals via the HMI are permitted; safety-relevant content must be available offline and kept up to date.
- Documentation: Functions, safety measures, and software updates must be fully documented; HMIs are considered part of the overall safety-related system.
- Ergonomics & usability: Intuitive, error-tolerant operation is explicitly required – good UX becomes a safety requirement.
- Updates & remote access: Updates must be traceable and secure; remote access allowed only with clear protective measures.
What does that mean specifically?
Many existing HMIs require adjustments — not only technically, but also in terms of usability, transparency, and future readiness. We support you pragmatically and with a strong focus on mechanical engineering.
(Note: We are not certified CE or legal consultants; interpretation is the responsibility of the customer. We provide support in technical implementation and HMI design.)

How do we support mechanical engineers in this area?
Analysis & evaluation of your HMI
- Assessment of your system landscape, standards practices, and customer requirements (workshop).
- Technical analysis of architecture, security, logging, and update processes.
- Comparison of applicable requirements within the existing system (A-Vis/A-Sphere) and identification of gaps.
Recommendations & roadmap
- Prioritized action plan with effort estimation.
- Optional: Step-by-step migration strategy – including coordination with design, CE, IT, and software teams.
Implementation
- Development of compliant, user-friendly HMI concepts and components.
- Ongoing support for documentation and audits.
- On request: Migration to the RANA platform, offering advantages in security, updatability, and modularization.
Framework & transparency
- The initial analysis is compact (typically 6–8 person-days) and provides a reliable decision basis for optimization or migration.
Welche Expertise bringen wir ein?
- HMI specialization in mechanical and plant engineering: 25 years of experience in operating concepts, safety-critical UX, and industrial workflows.
- Standards-oriented software architecture: Security-by-design, update and logging concepts, user and role models, traceability.
- Practice over theory: We translate regulatory requirements into actionable HMI standards, components, and guidelines – tailored to your industry and existing systems.
- Collaboration as eqzuals: Close coordination with CE managers, design, IT, and software teams – you retain regulatory responsibility, we provide the technical foundation.
